Plan the move to DOORS Next
Moving from DOORS Classic involves data, working practices and platform differences. Softacus combines migration tooling and services with source analysis, preparation and validation.
Work through the migration
Workflow overview based on the documented scope. Configuration and delivery details are agreed for your environment.
- Assess and design. Review attributes, links, baselines, access rules and DXL customisations; define mappings and cleanup needs.
- Run a pilot. Import representative data into a test environment and review data and processes with users.
- Validate the move. Test production results and resolve agreed acceptance checks before final approval.
Inputs and acceptance
Provide source modules, data structures and retention needs. Agree the target data, transformations, exceptions and validation evidence. The migration plan should identify who reviews and accepts each result.
Tooling and data flow
The migration route is chosen during analysis: IBM standard migration, Softacus automation or a suitable third-party tool. Source cleanup and mapping lead into a DOORS Next test environment, followed by the agreed production move. This is a combined tooling and service solution, with the route selected for the actual source data.
Migration boundaries
Classic and Next handle some concepts differently. Some data and functions cannot be migrated directly. DXL code does not run unchanged in DOORS Next, and access controls need a recreation strategy. History and baselines require explicit coverage decisions; some reference material may remain in a retained Classic environment. Tooling, services, timing and post-migration support are scoped in the proposal.
Common question
Will everything transfer unchanged? Platform differences can require transformation or retention in the source environment. Confirm these decisions before migration.
